On the weekend of July 20-22, the Toronto HPV Club will have a camping and bike riding weekend at Darlington Provincial Park, just east of Oshawa Ontario. The basic plan is: 1) Arrive at the park on Friday evening to set up camp and have dinner 2) Ride our bikes to Port Hope and back on Saturday 3) Ride back to Toronto on Sunday. You can also just come for the Saturday or Sunday rides if you don't want to camp out for the weekend.

Who?

This ride is being organized by the Toronto HPV Club, but all cyclists are welcome to join us.

The Plan

Waterfront Trail
Waterfront Trail

Friday

  • Arrival at Darlington Provincial Park, anytime in the evening.
  • Arrival by GO Train:
    • You can take your bike on the GO train from Toronto anytime after 6:30pm!
    • Here's a simplified schedule with the appropriate train times. I would suggest either of the first two trains listed.
    • The Oshawa GO station is about 13km from Darlington Provincial Park (approx. 45 minutes to ride)
  • Arrival by bike:
  • Arrival by car:
    • You can meet us at the campground if you're driving in from elsewhere.

Saturday

  • Ride to Port Hope (Map):
    • Port Hope is about 50km from the park. Most of it is a VERY scenic ride along the Waterfront Trail, which combines calm on-road bike routes with a few simple off-road sections.
    • For anyone not wanting to do the whole 100km round trip to Port Hope, you can turn around at Bond Head (25km), or any other point along the way.
    • Alternatively, you can also just hang out at the park and have a relaxing weekend on the beach!

Sunday

  • Ride back to Toronto via the Waterfront Trail
    • You can bail out at Oshawa, Whitby, Ajax, or Pickering GO stations if you want a shorter ride back (See Schedule)
